Old Fashioned Social Networking

Harold Hackett, of Prince Edward Island, demonstrates how people communicated to others before things such as Skype, Facebook, and even Myspace existed.  Call him old fashioned...
"Over the last two decades, Harold Hackett has sent out over 4,800 messages in a bottle from Prince Edward Island, Canada's smallest province along the Atlantic coastline."

Oh Adam Sandler, What are you doing?!?

In Funny People, Adam Sandler played a comedian (which was pretty much a caricature of himself, in my honest opinion) that sells out and plays the ridiculous Hollywood movies that are hollow, cheap on laughs, but do well in the Box Office.

And here we are in 2011, where Adam Sandler.... stars in that exact same movie...

One of the updates of the new Star Wars Blu-Ray DVD...

Conan........the Professor.....

After a tough life which started when the ruthless warlord Thulsa Doom destroyed his village and killed his parents, Conan was bent on a life of revenge.  After many years of being confined to the Wheel of Pain, and many more years of earning the job title, "the Barbarian"  (duties which comprised mainly of crushing his enemy, seeing them driven before him, and hearing the lamentations of the women....you know, the typical Barbarian job role),  it was refreshing to see Conan was granted a tenure track position as a professor... at least according to a website for Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland that was hacked....

The Best Part of the Mayweather-Ortiz Fight Night

Despite the fact that the Mayweather-Ortiz fight ended in controversial  (sucker?) punch knockout , I think the most entertaing part of the night was what went on afterwards, with this interview with famed HBO boxing announcer, Larry Merchant

Lessons Learned from 80's Musical Montages

Despite what you read in the history books, Sylvester Stallone and 80's synth-rock can be attributed to the fall of Communism.

Growing up in the 80’s, you were constantly bombarded with important lessons. From public service announcements advertisements to cartoons, you were constantly exposed to a  lesson of some sort.  This trend continued with movies of the day, more specifically, during the musical montage portion of the movie.  It is the portion of a movie where the protagonist goes through a pronounced change.  In real time, it could be in the span of a long period of time (days, weeks, months), but to the moviegoer, this could be during the span of 3-4 minutes, or however long the song is.  So let’s find out these integral life lessons.

Legend of Zelda Themes on Marimba

An original arrangement of the Main theme of Legend of Zelda was played on the marimba, snare drum, cymbal,  bells, timpani, and fittingly, a triangle.

and my personal favorite song of the Zelda series, Song of Storms:

Probably could have used two more triangles,  but still pretty awesome

5 Memorable Cinematic Moments Thanks to Queen and Freddie Mercury

Google commemorates the birthday of late Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury's with a colorful Google Doodle.  Mercury would have turned 65 today.

Since I grew up in the 80's, the heyday of Queen was before my time.  My limited exposure to Queen was in the songs they provided for movie soundtracks.   Freddie Mercury and Queen's signature rock operatic sound provided a very distinctive classic, yet modern sound to any movie.   Here are some notable examples:

Avengers Assemble in Central Park NYC

Filming began on location in Midtown Manhattan this past weekend for the Avengers movie, which will be released next summer.  I was never really an Avengers fan (more a Spidey fan), but I am psyched for this movie.  Footage after the jump....
